Structural changes with the details closed out
Temporary support planned
We prop the structure before controlled demolition begins around the opening.
Steelwork to specification
We install the stated support to the structural design and relevant standards.
Surfaces made good
We restore affected floors, walls and ceilings after inspections are complete.
Open the layout without guessing at support
Removing a wall can create a larger kitchen, clearer sight lines or a better route through the ground floor, but the load above still needs somewhere safe to go. We begin load bearing wall removal with structural assessment and the required calculations. Before demolition, we plan temporary propping and protect the surrounding area. The opening is then formed in a controlled sequence, with an RSJ or other specified structural steel installed to the engineer's design and relevant British Standards. Enlarged openings and related layout changes follow the same careful principle: support first, alter second and check the work before hiding it.

The job continues after the steel goes in
Structural work is only part of the finished result. We coordinate building-control attendance and record concealed details before ceilings and walls are closed. We then make good the areas around the opening, which may include floors, plaster, ceilings, joinery and decoration. Electrical cables, plumbing or heating routes affected by the change are moved through the proper trade sequence. By managing the alteration and reinstatement together, we avoid leaving you with a technically supported opening surrounded by half-finished surfaces. The final quotation reflects the surveyed structure and agreed making-good scope.
Frequently asked questions
Is an engineer needed before removing the wall?
Load-bearing alterations normally require structural assessment and calculations for the proposed support. We coordinate the required information before demolition so temporary works and permanent steelwork can be planned correctly.
Can you move pipes and cables in the wall?
Yes, where included in the agreed scope. We identify visible and likely service routes during preparation, then coordinate qualified trades to reroute affected plumbing, heating or electrical services safely.
When does building control inspect the alteration?
The required inspection point depends on the approved detail and local process. We coordinate attendance while the structural work remains visible and document concealed elements before plaster or other finishes close them in.
